Why is Waverly Hills Sanatorium so eerie?

Waverly Hills is known for being haunted, and being a "hot bed" for paranormal activity. Part of the reason for this reputation has to do with Waverly's history. The numbers vary, but it's said that thousands died at Waverly Hills Sanatorium as it was originally a tuberculosis hospital.  After the tuberculosis epidemic was over, it was turned into a geriatric medical facility.  In 1981 Waverly Hills closed it's doors.  Now the Waverly Hills Historical Society works hard to help preserve the historic landmark, and by utilizing it's creepy history they're able to raise funds for their nonprofit which helps with the preservation of the building.

A Haunted House Within a Haunted Place

Each year Waverly Hills Sanatorium hosts a haunted house event where they take part of the building and transform it into a haunted house that you wind through with scare actors and all kinds of creepy scenes.  It's a huge fundraiser for the old building.

The haunted house runs weekends from September 30th through October 29th if you're interested in making the trip to Louisville to check it out.  I've heard the haunted house is really good, which would make sense because it's a haunted house located inside of an eerie haunted building.  I mean it doesn't get much more Halloween than that!

The Haunted House Tours are only on Friday and Saturday nights during the Halloween Season.  We are open from 8pm until 1am (although we stop selling tickets at about midnight, so we can ensure everyone gets through at a reasonable hour, usually by about 1am)

If you are brave enough to go through the haunted house at Waverly Hills, you can check out the times and tickets here.
