Apple Season Is Starting Around Evansville and Owensboro: Here’s Where to Go
I don't care if it's still 90 degrees outside. The second apples start showing up at local orchards, my brain immediately starts thinking about fall.
Apple picking, apple cider, apple butter, baked goods and eventually pumpkins are some of the best parts of the season. And around Evansville and Owensboro, you don't have to travel very far to get that classic orchard experience.
The best part is that apple season actually starts earlier than you might think. Some local orchards already have early varieties available, while others really get going as we move closer to September.
Here are a few places around the Tri-State to put on your late-summer and fall bucket list.
Evansville Countryside Orchard - Evansville, Indiana
If you want to stay right here in Evansville, Evansville Countryside Orchard is probably one of the easiest places to start. Located at 16800 Old Petersburg Road, the orchard grows several kinds of fruit throughout the year, including peaches, apples and pumpkins. As of its July 18 update, the orchard already had pre-picked Grandpa's Gold apples available, meaning apple season has technically already begun. (Countryside Orchard)
The orchard store is currently open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is closed Sunday. U-pick availability changes depending on what is ripe, so this is definitely one of those places where you'll want to check the orchard's latest update before grabbing your apple-picking basket and heading out. Reid's Orchard - Owensboro, Kentucky
A trip to Reid's Orchard is basically a fall tradition waiting to happen. The fifth-generation family farm at 4818 State Route 144 in Owensboro grows everything from strawberries and peaches to apples, pumpkins and vegetables. According to the orchard's seasonal produce guide, summer apples can start appearing in early July, while September and October are prime months for apples, pumpkins and mums. (Reid's Orchard)
The Apple House is currently open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you're looking for the full fall family experience, keep September on your calendar. Reidland, the orchard's play area, is currently closed and is scheduled to reopen in September. (Reid's Orchard)

Mayse Farm Market - Evansville, Indiana
Mayse Farm is another Evansville favorite to keep on your radar as we head toward fall. The farm market at 6400 N. St. Joseph Avenue has been serving the Tri-State for more than 85 years and offers seasonal produce along with its bakery and fall activities. The market is already open for its 2026 season, and apples are among the produce visitors can find as summer turns into fall. (Mayse Farm Market)
Current hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The farm is also already accepting applications for its 2026 fall season, which is another little reminder that pumpkin and apple weather isn't as far away as it feels. Farview Orchards - Mount Vernon, Indiana
If you're willing to make the short drive west of Evansville, Farview Orchards Inc in Mount Vernon is another local orchard worth remembering. The family-owned orchard at 4200 Oliver Springfield Road is known for seasonal fruit and offers both pre-picked and U-pick experiences depending on what's ripe.
Unlike the other orchards on this list, I could not find a reliable published 2026 apple-opening date or current set of hours for Farview. Since picking dates can change quickly depending on weather and ripeness, I would call ahead before making the drive specifically for apples.

Apple Season Comes Earlier Than You Think
Here's your reminder that you don't necessarily have to wait until you're wearing a sweater and carrying a pumpkin spice latte to go apple shopping. Early varieties are already starting to appear around the Tri-State, while September and October will bring even more apples and fall activities.
Because we're talking about farms and Mother Nature makes the schedule, varieties, picking dates and hours can change quickly. Before heading out, check with the orchard directly to make sure the apples or activities you're looking for are available that day.
Now the real question is, what are you making first: apple pie, apple crisp or just eating one straight from the orchard?
