When Is It Officially Time to Break Out the Flannels?

Fall is officially here, but does that mean it’s sweater weather yet?

Tomorrow officially marks the first day of fall, and I have to admit, I am giddy. When I mean I'm giddy, I mean I started decorating for fall back in August when we were still in heat advisory weather. What can I say? I'm a seasonal girlie.

I’m happy that the trees will start changing colors soon, football season is already in full swing, and I better get invited to lots of bonfires this year because that is easily one of my favorite parts of fall.

And it sounds like Mother Nature might finally be getting the memo, too. According to 25 ABC Eyewitness News, temperatures are expected to cool down, which means it may actually start feeling a little more like fall around the Tri-State. So maybe I won’t have to stare longingly at all of those sweaters and flannels in my closet for much longer.

But all of this has me wondering something very important: When is it TOO early to wear your flannel?

When Does Sweater Weather Actually Begin?

Do you have a certain time every year when you officially hang up the tank tops and shorts and pull out the sweaters, hoodies and flannels?

Is it the first day of fall? Do you wait until October? Or do you base it completely on the temperature outside?

And while we’re at it, when do you start decorating your house with pumpkin spice and everything nice? When does your regular coffee order suddenly turn into a pumpkin spice latte?

My Fall Clothes Are READY

I’m currently trying to downsize my closet, but I can tell you right now that my sweaters, hoodies and jackets are ready to be worn.

In my opinion, fall outfits are just more stylish. You can layer different pieces, break out the boots and jackets, and I swear the fall colors are just more flattering.

The only problem is that Southern Indiana weather doesn't always get the memo that fall has arrived. You can walk out of the house in a cute sweater in the morning and regret every decision you've ever made by the afternoon.

So I need to know: When do YOU officially whip out the flannels?

Are you wearing them as soon as fall begins, or does the temperature have to drop below a certain point before you finally declare it sweater weather?
