University of Evansville Player Receives Two MVC Honors This Week
This week, University of Evansville junior guard Ryan Taylor was named MVC Player of the Week and was named to the All-MVC First Team!
MVC Player of the Week
For the second time this season, Taylor has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week by the league office on Monday. His unbelievable season continued as he averaged 27.5 points per game over the last week for UE. Taylor dropped 30 points on Wednesday at Indiana State, hitting 11 shots while tying his career mark with eight rebounds. He backed that up with 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting and a 5-of-10 effort from long range in a 75-44 win over Southern Illinois. Taylor averaged 36 minutes per game over the course of the week along with 6.5 rebounds.
All-MVC First Team Honors
This season, Taylor has averaged 22.1 points per game while scoring 20 points or more on 18 occasions. The Gary, Ind. native has been on an absolute roll in the last nine games, averaging 26.0 points while pushing his season average to a league-best 22.1. He ranks 13th in the nation with his average. As the top scorer in the league, Taylor helped UE extend its streak to five years in a row of having the conference’s leading scorer. He becomes the 8th player in UE’s MVC history to earn the accolade and the first since D.J. Balentine and Egidijus Mockevicius were named to the First Team in 2016. Joining him on the first team are Clayton Custer (Loyola), Alize Johnson (Missouri State), Reed Timmer (Drake) and Milik Yarbrough (Illinois State).
