Curious About Ube? Here’s What People Are Raving About
The Colorful Flavor Trend I Just Don’t Understand
Have you heard of the flavor 'ube'? Because listen… I wasn’t even sure how to pronounce it, let alone figure out what it was supposed to taste like. It sounds mysterious, it looks magical, and honestly, it gives off strong “created-by-a-unicorn” energy. I also just realized it is a yam! So we are making desserts and treats out of potatoes now?? Is this healthy or insane?
My First Ube Encounter
I’ve only tried one ube-flavored thing in my life, and even then, I’m not convinced I actually tasted it. During 812 Day in Evansville, I wandered into a downtown coffee shop that was serving an “812 Latte,” and to match the Evansville Aces vibe, they used ube syrup to make the drink purple. Cute idea! Beautiful color! But the flavor?
To me, it tasted like artificial coffee or it was almost as if it was something a cartoon barista would whip up in a Saturday morning kids show. It just wasn’t for me.
Ube Is Everywhere Right Now
But here’s the thing… ube is everywhere right now. I keep seeing ube-flavored snacks, drinks, desserts, you name it. It’s definitely trending — and it should be because it looks beautiful! I am just not convinced it tastes beautiful.. maybe I'm missing something?
So I want to hear from YOU.
Have you seen the ube craze? Have you tried anything ube-flavored? Could you describe to me what it tastes like? Do you actually like it… or are you just here for the Instagram-worthy purple aesthetic?
Let me know, because I’m genuinely curious if my taste buds are broken or if ube is just one of those flavors you have to learn to love!
