Evansville Is About to Be in a Pretty Big Pickle
If you’re like me then you're the type of person that asks for extra pickles on your sandwhiches. Whether it's a burger, or you keep your pickle spear on your plate until the very end, or maybe you are that much of a lover to where you're drinking the juice straight from the jar, Evansville has an event with your name written all over it.
And even if you’re only casually into pickles, I have two words that may convince you to go: costumed animals.
Think of a cat in a pickle costume, I would lose it.
The 2026 Evansville Pickle Festival is returning to Downtown Evansville on Saturday, September 12, and somehow organizers have found even more ways to celebrate one of the most divisive foods out there.
A Whole Festival Dedicated to Pickles? Yep.
The Evansville Pickle Festival will take over 900 Main Street from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., with VIP ticket holders getting early entry beginning at noon.
The festival is family-friendly, and children 12 and younger get in free and don't need a ticket.
Once you're inside, expect pickles in just about every form imaginable. More than 20 food trucks, food booths and other vendors are expected, with many serving their own pickle-inspired creations.
There's also a Grab & Go Pickle area featuring unique pickle flavors, pickling stations and even cucumber water.
Plus, the first 1,000 guests will receive their first drink as part of admission.
Please Don't Skip the Pickle Costume Fashion Show
I don't know who first decided that what a pickle festival really needed was a fashion show involving animals, but I would personally like to thank them.
At 4 p.m. near the main stage, the festival will host its Pickle Costume Fashion Show featuring an alpaca, goats, a bunny, a little cow and a tortoise.
Yes, you read all of that correctly and who doesn't want to see a little cow dressed like a pickle?!
Festivalgoers who want to compete for best costume should check in by 3:30 p.m. before the show begins.
Honestly, if you've ever wanted to spend your Saturday afternoon watching a tortoise participate in a pickle-themed fashion show, September 12 may be your day.
How Competitive Is Your Love of Pickles?
Eating them is one thing. The Evansville Pickle Festival would also like to know just how far you're willing to go for pickle glory.
At 5 p.m., the pickle competitions begin with three events:
- Brine Chug
- Bobbing for Pickles
- Hot Pickle Challenge
Suddenly eating a regular dill pickle doesn't seem quite as impressive, does it?
There will also be a cornhole tournament, with registration available through Scoreholio, along with indoor and outdoor bars for the adults.
There's More Than Pickles, Too
If you have someone in your family who isn't nearly as pickle-obsessed as you are, there's still plenty to check out.
In addition to all of the food, the festival will feature craft, merchandise and boutique vendors, giving you a chance to shop while you're there.
Premium and VIP ticket upgrades will also be available for guests looking for perks including express entry and early admission.
The festival is organized by Evansville Events, which has been bringing large-scale festivals and events to the area since 2011. The organization says it has produced 40 large-scale festivals and helped raise nearly $100,000 for local nonprofits over the years.
Before You Head to the Evansville Pickle Festival
The Evansville Pickle Festival happens Saturday, September 12, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 900 Main Street in Evansville, with VIP entry beginning at noon.
The event will happen rain or shine, and organizers say ticket purchases are final with no refunds or exchanges. Kids 12 and younger are admitted free.
Food trucks, restaurants and other vendors interested in participating can also apply through Evansville Events.
