I’ll Admit It… I’m Not Team Pineapple

Let’s stir the pot or should I say the sauce and talk about one of the most divisive food debates of all time. This can be considered a topic that can split a dinner table faster than politics. Yep, you guessed it: pineapple on pizza.

The Defenders of the Sweet Slice

Now, I’ll be honest right out of the gate — I’m not team pineapple. If someone ordered a Hawaiian pizza and I was STARVING... I won't pass it up, but I will never order it myself. Something about sweet fruit sitting on top of gooey cheese and tomato sauce just doesn’t do it for me. I’m more of a classic pizza person. My last name is Italian so I appreciate sausage, peppers, and weirdly enough green olives. I like to keep fruits off my main course and don't even come at me with a tomato being a fruit because I don't really like tomatoes either they are just the main base.
Every time this debate goes on, someone immediately jumps to defend it like they’ve been personally offended. “You just haven’t had it made right!” they’ll tell me. “You need the balance of salty ham with the juicy pineapple—it’s culinary perfection!” And while I’ll always respect a good food opinion, I can’t quite wrap my head (or taste buds) around it but I will always here them out and if they perfected the best pizza with pineapple I would give it a taste.

A Slice of History: Pineapple Pizza Wasn’t Born in Hawaii

Here’s a fun fact though — the “Hawaiian pizza” wasn’t even created in Hawaii! It was actually invented in Canada back in the 1960s by a restaurant owner who thought, “Hey, why not toss some pineapple on there?” And just like that, a pizza legend—and lifelong argument was born.
Since then, pineapple has become the ultimate love-it-or-hate-it topping. Some people say it’s the perfect sweet-and-savory combo, others say it’s downright blasphemy. Even celebrity chefs can’t agree! (Gordon Ramsay, for example, is firmly against it… and you know he’s not shy about his opinions.)

Love It or Hate It, There’s No Middle Ground

But here’s the thing: pizza is personal. What makes it great is that everyone has their own perfect slice. Some people like it piled high with veggies, others want extra meat, and yes, some want that golden pineapple glistening on top.
So I’ll leave it up to you. Does pineapple belong on pizza—or should it be banned from the box forever?
