With a winter weather advisory in effect for this afternoon and into the night, Evansville Animal Care and Control are reminding residents what to do for animals in distress. In the state of Indiana, and by local ordinance as well, straw or wood chips must be made available to animals outside in the elements. EACC reminds us that blankets are not suitable bedding for animals outside. If you don't know, blankets can become wet and freeze, even freezing to an animals fur. Of course, the best defense against the cold is to bring animals inside.

If you see an animal in distress, Evansville Animal Care and Control urges you to call 911.

If you'd like to go a step further, you can make a feral cat house to keep the community cats warm.
