There’s a New Italian Restaurant in Owensboro and You Need to Know About It
This One Feels Different
You know that feeling when you walk into a restaurant that you haven't been to yet but as soon as you walk in you just know you're coming back. Do you get that feeling? Well, that is exactly what Gusto Italian is going for and honestly from everything I have heard so far, they are nailing it.
Gusto Italian just opened at 5257 Frederica Street in Owensboro and I am already interested. If you look at their menu and see pictures of their pasta you will agree with me, it looks incredible. If that address rings a bell, it is because this is the old Tumbleweed Southwest Grill building, completely renovated and transformed into something that feels nothing like what used to be there.

The Story Behind It Actually Matters
Here is the thing that got me. This is not a corporate chain. This is not somebody who just thought opening a restaurant sounded fun. Owner Nick Kamberi comes from a family with decades of restaurant tradition and his recipes are rooted in his Sicilian heritage. We are talking about food that has been passed down, perfected, and made with the kind of care you can actually taste.
That backstory matters because it shows up on the plate.
What They Are Serving
Let me just run through this menu for a second because it is giving everything.
For starters you have calamari and ravioli to kick things off. Then for dinner we are talking homemade lasagna, chicken and veal parmigiana, cannelloni, manicotti, spaghetti, penne, and if you are a seafood person they have salmon, shrimp, and lobster on the menu too. And every single meal comes with fresh baked bread, baked in house daily, with unlimited refills. Unlimited. Refills.
They are currently serving beer and wine and plan to expand their liquor options down the road.

Do Not Sleep on the Lunch Specials
If you work anywhere near Frederica Street consider this your sign. Tuesday through Friday they are running lunch specials that include a choice of minestrone soup or a side salad paired with entrees like lasagna, penne, grilled chicken, cheese ravioli, and spaghetti. That is a solid lunch and you will not be disappointed.
They are also planning weekly dinner specials with expanded options including chicken piccata, chicken marsala, eggplant, and other traditional Italian dishes coming soon.
When to Go
Here are the hours so you have no excuse not to try it:
Tuesday through Thursday: 11am to 9pm Friday and Saturday: 11am to 10pm Sunday: 11am to 9pm Monday: Closed

Why You Should Go
Owensboro has been needing a spot like this. A place where the food has a real story behind it, where you are not just eating but you are actually experiencing something. Gusto Italian feels like that place.
Nick said he wants Gusto to feel like a second home for his customers and if this menu is any indication, he is well on his way to making that happen.
So do yourself a favor and get over to Frederica Street. Try the lasagna. Try the bread. And let us know what you think because I have a feeling this one is going to become a staple in Owensboro real fast.
