My friend Billy Tyler was tragically killed the morning of Wednesday, March 1st. Billy worked for the City of Owensboro and was out that morning, with his crew, doing some maintenance work on East Parrish Avenue. That's when he was struck by a vehicle and killed.

Since that time, his friends and family have been mourning their loss and trying to make some kind of sense out of something that doesn't make any sense at all.  I am certainly right there with them. Billy and I were friends for about twenty years and it's surreal to think that our last meeting took place a month ago at Davis Funeral Home here in town.

Billy had a lot of friends. He was a beloved and respected city employee and youth baseball coach.

He was a great leader and a great friend to many and those friends are now rallying to give back.

I spoke with Brian Booth this week. He too was a friend of Billy's. In fact, Brian works with Billy's widow, Brittany, at Swedish Match. Brian decided that he wants to do something to help Brittany and the family out, so he is organizing a golf scramble.

The Billy Tyler Memorial Golf Scramble is set for Saturday, May 13th at Ben Hawes Golf Course.

As you can see, the cost to play is $50 per person or $200 for a team. To get more information and to sign up to play, you can check out the scramble's official website.

By the way, if you're not a golfer and would still like to make a donation, you can do so using the DONATE button on the site.
