What Your Birth Year Slang Says About You
What’s Your Slang Word Based on the Year You Were Born?
If you listen to the show, you already know that every Wednesday, Bobby and I do our “Slang Word of the Week” segment. I love doing this segment each week because even though I’m in my early 20s, half the time I have no idea what the cool kids are saying these days. I thought I was supposed to be the “cool one” who kept up with Gen Z lingo… but apparently not!
When I Found the “Slang Word by Birth Year” Chart
So, I came across this link today that said, “Find out what your slang word is based on the year you were born.” Naturally, I had to check it out. And of course, I immediately knew this would be fun because mine and Bobby’s words would be totally different — considering the slight age gap between us. But I love it.
My Slang Word? …“Bromance”?
When I saw my word, I actually laughed out loud. “Bromance.” Apparently, that’s the slang word that defines my birth year. The word didn't even get put into the dictionary till 2011 but became popular in 2001. Don’t get me wrong my boyfriend definitely has a couple of bromances with his guy friends, and I’ve got some close guy friends too. But that word just doesn’t really fit me. I don’t exactly feel like a “bromance” kind of person, you know?
The Year That Actually Fits Me Best: 1971
If I could pick any slang word that really resonates with me, it would actually be from 1971 — “Deadhead.” A Deadhead is a superfan of the Grateful Dead, and honestly, that’s the vibe I relate to way more. The Grateful Dead had such a huge cultural impact back in the ’70s that their fans still carry that energy today.
You’ll still find Deadheads traveling the country to see shows at places like The Sphere, decked out in tie-dye and collecting merch from every stop. They’re all about the music, the community, and good vibes and that’s something I can totally get behind.
So, what's your slang word based on the year you were born? If your word doesn’t match your personality either, maybe look back a few decades — you might just find your inner Deadhead too.
