Enjoy the plastic straw that comes in your Starbucks while you can, because before too long it will be a thing of the past. No, that doesn't mean the coffee juggernaut is going completely strawless...it just means no more plastic.

Starbucks recently announced a plan to phase out plastic straws in favor of using special, strawless lids and alternative-material straws. The new policy will affect over 28,000 stores around the world, which will mean the elimination of approximately 1 billion straws.

Starbucks joins a growing list of companies, including hotels, airlines and other restaurant chains, that have decided to move away from the traditional, one-use plastic straw.
