Goodwill’s New Mount Vernon Store Has an Opening Date

We all know that I love a thrift store, especially a Goodwill! And another one is coming to the area! If you love a good thrift find and love supporting something bigger, here’s some exciting local news.

Evansville Goodwill has officially announced the grand opening date for its brand-new Mount Vernon store, and the doors will open April 30, 2026, at Southwind Plaza in Mount Vernon.

I really appreciate the need for Goodwill's in the state of Indiana. I always had to drice at least 30 minutes to the local Goodwill from my house. However, this isn’t just another place to hunt for hidden treasures, though. Every donation dropped off and every purchase made helps fund important local programs right here in the tri-state.

That includes The Excel Center Evansville Southeast, which gives adults the chance to earn their high school diploma for free, along with GoodSkills Academy, where people can build digital skills and job-ready training at no cost.

That’s what Goodwill calls its Cycle of Good your old stuff turns into opportunities for someone else. And that's what makes the Evansville area great is adding more "Cycles of Good" in our community and now Mount Vernon families get to be a part of it.

A donation truck is already on-site now, available every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., so you can start cleaning out those closets before the grand opening even gets here.

More Than a Storefront

One of the coolest parts of this expansion is what happens beyond the shopping floor.

Starting May 15, GoodSkills Academy will begin offering free computer classes at the Alexandrian Public Library in Mount Vernon.

The classes will be held monthly at first and are open to everyone. They’ll focus on helping people feel more confident with technology, earn certifications, and even learn foundational skills involving newer tools like artificial intelligence.

So yes, this new store means more shopping options — but it also means more education, more job skills, and more opportunities for people in Posey County and beyond.

Mark Your Calendar for the Celebration

I am already marking my calendar, anticipating the treasures I will find at yet another Goodwill I have to go to. The grand opening on April 30 is expected to be a fun one.

Goodwill says the celebration will include giveaways, prizes, food, and a chance to learn more about the programs your support helps fund.

So if you’re in Mount Vernon, this sounds like the perfect excuse to stop by, shop for some great finds, and support a mission that helps neighbors across the region.
