You Can Stay in a Hobbit House Hidden in the Hills of Kentucky

When you think about a weekend getaway to Kentucky’s Red River Gorge, you probably picture a cozy cabin tucked away in the woods. But what if you could stay somewhere that looks like it belongs in Middle-earth instead?

Meet the Red Hobbit.

This unique little getaway in Campton, Kentucky, is built right into the hillside and looks like something straight out of The Lord of the Rings. It’s an actual earth-sheltered home, complete with a handmade round front door and plenty of whimsical details inside.

And as someone who loves finding unique places to stay, this one immediately caught my attention.

It May Look Like a Hobbit Hole, But It Has Modern Comforts

Once you walk through that round door, you’ll find two bedrooms, one bathroom and enough room for up to five people. There’s a queen bed in one bedroom and a twin-over-full bunk bed in the other.

There’s also a kitchenette, Wi-Fi, a 55-inch smart TV and a cozy living room with a real-stone decorative fireplace and electric log insert. Outside, you can hang around the fire pit, make some s’mores or sit out and enjoy the night sky.

Honestly, if you’re going to spend a weekend hiking around Red River Gorge, coming back to your own little hobbit house sounds like a pretty fun way to end the day. I am writing this down on my bucket list of things to do, I always wanted to feel like I lived in The Shire.

There's Plenty to Do Nearby

The Red Hobbit is located at Cliffview Resort and puts you close to several of the things people head to Red River Gorge for, including hiking and rock climbing. The Red River Gorge Zipline and nearby off-road tour sign-up area are also within a short walk of the property.

So, no, every trip to Red River Gorge has to involve staying in a traditional log cabin.

Sometimes you just need a round door, a fireplace and your own little piece of Middle-earth tucked into the Kentucky hills.

And I have a feeling this place just made its way onto a few Kentucky getaway bucket lists.
