Are You Guilty of Doing These Things When Staying at a Hotel?

I don't know about you, but I think most of us can admit that we act a little differently when we're staying at a hotel. I get it! I do things a little differently when I'm staying at a hotel, too. Maybe it's the fact that someone else is making the bed, or maybe it's because you're on vacation and suddenly all your normal routines go right out the window.

Whatever it is, I think we can all admit that we've done at least a few things at a hotel that we would never do in our own homes.

And don't feel bad, because I'm definitely guilty of some of these!

Taking Every Single Free Toiletry

Let's start with an obvious one.

You walk into your hotel bathroom and see those little bottles of shampoo, conditioner and lotion sitting on the counter.

Do you actually need them? Probably not.

But are you taking them home anyway? Absolutely. You never know when they could come in handy for when you travel again.

Now are we going to use these tiny shampoos and conditioners or say that we will use them next time we travel and then forget them in a drawer, yes probably so.

Checking Every Drawer Like You're Moving In

You walk into your hotel room, set your suitcase down, and immediately start opening every drawer, closet, and cabinet.

It's not like you're planning to move in for the next six months, but for some reason, you need to know what's in every single one. At least I do! I always want to see if someone left anything behind, and I'm definitely judging how clean those drawers are.

My parents are avid travelers, and while I personally prefer Airbnbs, they're hotel people. They will unpack their entire suitcase, put everything away, and basically act like they've moved into the hotel room. Meanwhile, I'm perfectly fine living out of my suitcase for a few days.

And don't even get me started on checking the mini fridge.

Even if you have absolutely no intention of using it, you still have to take a look!

Taking the Longest Shower of Your Life

At home, you might try to keep your shower relatively quick.

But at a hotel? Suddenly, you've got all the time in the world.

You turn the water up, stand there for what feels like an eternity and enjoy the fact that you're not thinking about your own water bill.

Of course, this only works if the hotel actually has good water pressure.

Turning the Air Conditioning Way Down

I swear hotel rooms are either freezing cold or ridiculously hot. There is no in-between.

And for some reason, one of the first things people do when they walk into a hotel room is head straight for the thermostat.

You might keep your house at 72 degrees, but the second you're staying at a hotel, suddenly 65 sounds perfect.

Then you spend the entire night buried under the blankets because you made the room too cold.

Taking Advantage of the Free Breakfast

If a hotel offers complimentary breakfast, you better believe people are getting their money's worth.

Even if you're someone who normally skips breakfast, suddenly you're waking up early for waffles, scrambled eggs, cereal and a muffin for the road.

And there's always that one person who treats the hotel waffle maker like it's the greatest invention of all time.

Honestly, I kind of respect it.

Bringing Home the Extra Coffee and Tea

You know those little coffee packets and tea bags sitting next to the hotel coffee maker?

Somehow, they always seem to find their way into people's suitcases.

Even if you never used the coffee maker during your stay, you might still grab a couple packets before checking out.

It's like a little souvenir, except you'll probably forget about it the second you get home.

Watching TV Shows You Would Never Watch at Home

This one makes me laugh because it's so true.

At home, you've got all your streaming services and favorite shows ready to go.

But at a hotel, you somehow end up watching three hours of a random reality show or a movie you've already seen a hundred times.

And instead of changing the channel, you just keep watching.

Something about lying in a hotel bed and watching whatever happens to be on TV is strangely relaxing.

Using Every Single Pillow on the Bed

Why does a hotel bed need six pillows?

I have no idea, but that doesn't stop me from using them.

You start with one behind your head, another behind your back and maybe one to hug.

Before you know it, you've built yourself a little pillow fortress.

And somehow, despite having all those pillows, you still wake up wondering why your neck hurts.

Leaving the Bed Unmade

Now, this is where I think people are divided.

Some people wake up at a hotel and still make the bed because it's part of their everyday routine.

Others figure, why bother?

You're paying to stay there, and housekeeping is going to take care of it anyway.

Personally, I think this one says a lot about someone's personality.

Be Honest, How Many Are You Guilty Of?

I think that's part of the fun of staying at a hotel. Whether you're heading out on vacation, taking a weekend road trip or just getting away for a night, you get to break away from your normal routine a little bit.

And apparently, that means collecting tiny shampoos, freezing yourself out of your room and eating way more waffles than you normally would.

So, now I'm curious. What's one thing you ALWAYS do when staying at a hotel that you would never do at home?

Because I have a feeling we've all got at least one weird hotel habit!
