Owensboro Announces Plans for 4th of July Celebration
If you were worried that you may or may not get to see some fireworks on Intendance Day, you are in luck. In what is honestly a really good idea the city of Owensboro will have not one but eight different locations to watch fireworks on the Fourth of July.
City officials said that in order to comply with Governor Beshear’s guidelines fireworks will be shot off from eight different locations at the same time. This is to keep from having a large group of people gather in one area at a time.
“It’s a unique situation, but we still wanted the community to be able to celebrate the holiday together while avoiding massive crowds,”
said Director of Public Events, Tim Ross.
“You can stay at home and enjoy a barbecue picnic with your family and friends, or drive to a parking lot near one of the launch locations and still enjoy a great fireworks show. If people do decide to view from a parking lot or area near a launch location, we ask that you maintain 6′ social distancing from other families.”
I can honestly say that I wasn’t sure if there would be a big public firework display anywhere this year. But, as I said, this is a really good idea. It gives you the chance to see a great show and not even have to leave the backyard if you are close enough to one of the shoot-off spots. It wouldn’t be the Fourth of July without fireworks. So, it’s great to see that Owensboro is rolling with the punches on this.
The holiday celebration is set for Friday, July 3rd at 9:15 p.m. and these are the eight locations they will be launched from:
- Thompson-Berry Park
- Centre Court
- Owensboro Sportscenter/Moreland Park
- Southern Little League
- The former Owensboro Health hospital
- The former GE plant
- The Ohio River in downtown Owensboro
- Owensboro Country Club
