Newborn Kittens Found in Evansville Dumpster

On Wednesday, January 12th, the Vanderburgh Humane Society posted a video with a shocking caption. The video was of adorable tiny newborn kittens in a shoebox. Not much cuter than tiny kittens, right? Well unfortunately these kittens have had a really rough start to their new life.

According to the post on the Vanderburgh Humane Society Facebook page, the kittens had been dumped IN A DUMPSTER. The kittens are so young that their umbilical cords are still attached. Lucky for these kittens they were taken in by the Vanderburgh Humane Society to be given the best chance possible at life. Here's what the VHS said about the kittens:

These newborns were found in a dumpster this morning, umbilical cords still attached. Kittens separated from their mothers at this age often struggle to thrive, but we will give them the best chance we can. They are now safe in foster care.
It seems like “kitten season” will never end. The ONLY solution is spay and neuter. Our clinic spayed over 7,000 pets in 2021, preventing thousands of unwanted litters like these discarded newborns. We are making a huge impact on animal welfare in our community, but we hope to eventually see a day when finding a bag of newborn kittens in a dumpster or a box of puppies at our door is a thing of the past.
Please fix your pets before 5 months of age. We are always here with resources, including monthly pet food banks and low/cost spay and neuter. If your pet does have an unwanted litter, we would much rather help you surrender them than find them discarded and in distress.

I don't often insert my personal opinions into articles, but I think we can all agree that some people are just monsters. I'm very thankful to organizations like the VHS who work hard to help and give animals like these kittens a fighting chance.

The pet overpopulation is putting a huge strain on our local rescues and shelters, so please if you have pets, get them spayed/neutered! It's the best thing you can do to help make sure accidental litters don't happen.
