Evansville McDonald’s Dedicates Memorial to Longtime Employee Loraine “The McDonald’s Lady” Maurer

An Evansville woman who became known as "The McDonald's Lady" has been memorialized following more than four decades of serving the community.

Her name is Loraine Maurer, and it is very likely that, at some point, you crossed her path during a visit to the Golden Arches. Miss Loraine was a McDonald's employee for more than 45 years, sharing a smile with customers at various locations on Evansville's eastside. It was her dedication to the job that earned her the title "The McDonald's Lady," along with local and even national recognition. Back in 2017, Miss Loraine was featured in a People magazine article, along with a story on ABC News.

Who is "The McDonald's Lady"

Miss Loraine was born and raised in Evansville, graduating from Memorial High School back in 1940. The mother of four worked at Woolworth, the Evansville Drive-In Theatre, and Whirlpool before getting hired at McDonald's. Miss Loraine passed away in February 2021 at the age of 98, but her bright smile will continue to shine thanks to a new memorial at a recently remodeled McDonald's location.

Where Can I See Her Memorial?

A special ceremony was recently held at the McDonald's restaurant located at 3350 N Green River Road to dedicate the memorial to Miss Loraine. The event included a ribbon-cutting and refreshments, plus a special proclamation from Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke. Local McDonald's owner/operator, Katie Kenworthy, says “We’re excited to serve the community with our newly renovated restaurant, but it doesn’t quite feel complete without Miss Loraine behind the counter. We’ll always hold a special place in our hearts for Miss Loraine, and now we’ll have a special place within our restaurant where her legacy will live on.”
