Lloyd Expressway Traffic Switch Begins on Evansville’s West Side This Weekend
Lloyd4U construction is reaching a key milestone this weekend as the next phase kicks in. Starting Saturday, September 21, westbound traffic on the Lloyd Expressway will shift to the south side, reducing to one lane in each direction. This change is part of ongoing improvements between Barker Avenue and Posey County Line Road.
Morning Delays Expected
Traffic changes will start at 7 a.m., with delays likely between 8 and 9 a.m. as crews guide vehicles into the new configuration. Westbound motorists should stay alert and follow signs and pavement markings to navigate the switch safely. The exit at University Parkway will remain open for westbound drivers.
Why the Shift?
This traffic switch will give crews the space they need to upgrade the westbound side, which includes pavement replacement, bridge reconstruction, and intersection improvements. Work on this portion of the Lloyd Expressway is expected to continue through mid-2025, when traffic will shift again to the newly completed side to begin work on the eastbound lanes.
Master the Zipper Merge Technique
To keep traffic flowing smoothly, drivers are encouraged to use the Zipper Merge when entering the work zone. Simply use both lanes up to the merge point, then take turns merging into the single lane. This will help reduce backups and keep things moving. Not sure how it works? Safety First
As always, be sure to slow down, stay focused, and drive safely through construction areas. The changes may cause some inconvenience, but these improvements are meant to eventually create a safer roadway.
