Evansville Football Coach Earns NFL Honor After Big Win

A big win for the Memorial Tigers also led to some special recognition for the man leading the team.

If you follow high school football in Evansville, you probably already know the name John Hurley. Now, the longtime Memorial head football coach is getting some recognition from the NFL.

Reitz Memorial Athletics announced that Head Football Coach John Hurley has been named the Indianapolis Colts/NFL Coach of the Week for Week 4.

The honor comes after the Memorial Tigers picked up an impressive 52-21 victory over Mater Dei.

What Is the Colts Coach of the Week Award?

Basically, the Indianapolis Colts recognize Indiana high school football coaches throughout the season for their teams' performances and the work they are doing with their programs.

Hurley was recognized by the Colts along with Certor Sports and former Colts player Mike Prior, who helped present him with the honor.

And this isn't Hurley's first time receiving the recognition.

According to Reitz Memorial Athletics, this is the third time Hurley has been named Colts Coach of the Week since becoming Memorial's head football coach in 2008. That means he has been leading the Tigers for nearly two decades.

Memorial Athletics also praised Hurley's dedication and loyalty to the school, along with the time, hard work and sacrifices he has made for his student-athletes and the football program over the years.

So, while the Tigers' 52-21 win was already something to celebrate, it also gave Memorial another reason to be proud.

Congratulations to Coach Hurley and the Memorial Tigers!
