The Silliest Reason I Became an IU Fan
How I Accidentally Became an IU Fan
Okay… I’ll admit it. I’ve officially fallen down the IU Hoosiers fandom rabbit hole. Call me a bandwagon fan if you want, but in my defense, I’ve never really followed a Division I team before. And now that I’m an Indiana resident, I figured—why not pick the home team?
A Pit Stop That Changed Everything
It all started after a late afternoon hike in Brown County. It was getting dark, we were hungry, and we still had a two-hour drive ahead of us. So we stopped halfway and landed at Yogi’s in Bloomington. The place was *packed*—crimson and white everywhere, walls covered in IU pride, and the whole restaurant buzzing like a college stadium that smelled like french fries.
College students, alumni, and families were decked out head-to-toe in IU colors, hyped and loud. At that moment, IU was about to snag their **tenth straight win**. Since then, they’ve pulled off **thirteen in a row** and even taken down Ohio State.
The funny part? My boyfriend had already gifted me an IU shirt before any of this, thinking I’d want one now that we live here. We hadn’t really followed the team… until we saw how the entire state rallies behind the Hoosiers. It’s contagious.
The Moment I Went Full Hoosier
Once we finally got a table, every time IU scored a touchdown the entire restaurant erupted into the iconic chant:
“HOO! HOO! HOOOOSIERS!”
The first time it happened, it startled us. The second time, we were chanting right along with everyone else.
And now? I’m wearing my IU hoodie, watching the games, and cheering like I’ve been a Hoosier fan my whole life.
