List of Halloween Candy For Those with Allergies
Halloween is an amazing holiday for many reasons. One reason that pretty much anyone of any age can agree on is CANDY. Unfortunately, some kids are allergic to certain candies (peanut, soy, and more recently gluten). So I found a list of what candies are safe for people with certain allergies so that you know what food to avoid, or if someone asks if you have any "something-free" candy you know what to point them to!
A common misconception about food allergies is that you have to buy "special" candy if you have an allergy. While those "special" candies do exists, they are expensive and there are more commonly known candies that people buy on an everyday basis that meet the same standards! You just have to know which ones!
Some gluten-free candies:
M&M's (EXCEPT pretzel M&Ms)
Reese's Cups (EXCEPT seasonal shapes. That means pumpkin shaped Reese's are a no-no.)
Haribo Gummy Candies
Hershey's Milk Chocolate
Mike & Ike
Reese's Peanut Butter Cups
Kit Kat bars
Krackel candy bar
Sour Patch Kids
If you are looking to avoid a certain food this Halloween season, even if the candy isn't known to have that thing you're allergic to in it, ALWAYS check the package! Some companies use the same machines to make different candies. So, while a candy may not have nuts in it, it may have been on a conveyor belt that just had a nut product on it. The packaging should tell you whether or not the product may have been "contaminated" by a certain peanut product (or other).
Hope this helps! Have a safe and candy-coma-induced Halloween!!!
