Unfortunately, I didn't have the pleasure to know Colt throughout his life, but I was part of many talent shows that he competed in, and I saw him play around town on various occasions. Learning more about his life over the last several days, I regret not knowing him better. So many people loved Colt, and he's left a hole in many hearts after his unfortunate and untimely passing. His memory and music will continue to live on.
REMEMBERING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF COLT RICKARD
Colt will be remembered as a kind, laid-back son, brother, grandson, husband, and friend. As news began to circulate of his death, tributes started pouring in. I had the chance to reach out to his grieving mom. She's missing her baby boy badly, as you can imagine. She shared more about Colt's life and what he meant to those who loved him most.
"Colt was my best friend. We “grew up” together. At age 4, Colt once caught me crying in our living room in the middle of the night; he crawled up on the couch, scooted in close beside me, put both of his little hands in mine, looked me right in the eye, and said “Mama? I don’t know why you’re sad…but I know I love you.” And that was Colt Rickard.", she shared
We all have things we want to do with our lives, and in Colt's case, he lived in the moment. He left his mark on many so his legacy lives on and will continue to do so for a very long time. He was always helping friends and family live their best lives.
His mother shared more, "Colt made you WANT to smile. He made you believe in yourself & your dreams. He fought enough demons of his own, and he wanted to help others fight theirs and win. He wanted his friends to succeed in whatever they loved to do. He was beautiful, talented, loyal, and humble. That was Colt…he loved hard…and you couldn’t help but love him hard right back."
Oh, and Honey, I’ll be waitin’
when you walk through God’s front door.

COLT RICKARD, SINGER, MUSICIAN, SONGWRITER
He just had that “star” quality to his lyrical skills, voice, and guitar pickin’.- Dwayne Potter
Colt will be missed, but his songs will live on forever. He was at his calmest and happiest writing and performing music. Whether as a solo artist or playing in a band, he thrived on stage. It's where he was meant to be!
His singing was always calming to my soul. - Jennifer McBride
With that raspy, soulful voice, he made music for everybody throughout his short life. He was such a wonderful musician and talented songwriter. He touched so many hearts through his lyrics. Through storytelling, he sang with the kind of power people never expected. He could take a bad day and turn it around with just one note.
Colt- Buddy… thank you. You don’t know it, but your light and positivity are part of what helped keep me going through a dark time in my life. You never showed me anything but love and respect, and I only hope I was able to teach you as much as you did me when our paths crossed. Rest easy sir. It was truly an honor and a privilege. - Steven Stewart
Colt wrote this song about his great-granddad when he was about 17 or 18. He wrote this in just a few days to sing at his funeral. Young? Yes, he was but he could see life from a place very few could and tell great stories with his talent. - Jeff Fuqua
