Before the coronavirus quarantine and subsequent shutdown, I would visit some of the Evansville Public Library locations just about every week. Now, I'll admit that I was never there to look at books, because I don't read (see my latest Cubicle Confession to find out how that's changing), but the EVPL has more than just books to offer. I'd stop in on my way home from work on a Friday to see if there were any movies that we could watch at the G house over the weekend. More times than not, they would have a pretty decent selection of newer movies and a whole bunch of older movies to choose from. The library is also a great place to find music. You can peruse through all kinds of different genres and find a huge variety of artists. Grab up a handful that look interesting to you and give them a listen, you might just find some hidden gem. The best part is, it's all free! If you don't like a movie or a CD, no worries, it didn't cost you anything.

I'm telling you all this to illustrate what a great resource our libraries are, and how much I've missed them the last few months. Despite being closed, the EVPL has been busy during the quarantine, having really stepped up their digital game, even updating and expanding their website ( with the addition of dedicated sites for EVPL Kids and EVPL Teens.

On Monday, June 1st, the EVPL to Go curbside service will return to all 8 library branch locations, and will be available Monday-Friday from 9am-6pm, and Saturdays from 10am-5pm. EVPL CEO-Director, Scott Kinney, says

We are excited to once again be able to get library materials in cardholders’ hands. We know our community has missed borrowing items from our collection and visiting our locations. We thank everyone for their patience during this unprecedented time and are looking forward to transitioning towards in-person services, beginning with the expansion of EVPL To Go to all eight of our locations.

EVPL To Go is part of a phased plan to resume services in stages created by EVPL Administration in collaboration with the EVPL Board of Trustees. A reopening date has not been set.
