The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library (EVPL) announced the theme for its summer reading celebration, and it’s a chance for families, kids, teens, and adults across the Evansville area to celebrate reading, learning, and history with a season packed full of fun activities and community events.

Our Summer: 250 Years of History is designed to take people on an exciting journey through the people, traditions, and moments that helped shape our country and our local communities.

The two-month celebration officially kicks off on Sunday, May 31, with a big community event at EVPL Central from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Families are invited to stop by for games, music, activities, and plenty of opportunities to sign up for the summer program.

How To Register For The EVPL Summer Program

Participants can register at the kickoff event or at any EVPL location from June 1 through July 31. Registration opportunities will also be available during many EVPL Outreach events throughout the summer.

EVPL Offers Programs For Every Age Group

One of the best parts about the program is that it’s designed for every age group. EVPL offers separate summer reading and activity programs for ages 0-5, 6-8, 9-12, plus teens and adults. Participants can track their progress using either a logbook or an app, making it easy to stay involved all summer long.

And you get credit for all types of reading – whether it’s a physical book, listening to an audiobook, reading with your kids before bedtime, or catching up on e-books by the pool – it all goes toward earning prizes.

Everyone who signs up will receive a registration prize, and additional prizes and grand prize entries can be earned by completing reading goals and participating in activities.

Nearly 600 Free Events Planned This Summer

Beyond reading, the EVPL is planning nearly 600 free programs during June and July, giving the community countless ways to stay entertained, learn something new, and make memories together this summer.
