Evansville Drivers Beware: Newly Reopened Road Has Unexpected Median

We have grown accustomed to the orange construction cones all around Evansville. Sometimes it feels like the roads will never open. Once the fresh pavement is ready to be driven on and the cones are placed elsewhere in the city, it's exciting to see completed projects.

Evansville's East Side Growing Every Day

We have plenty of room for improvement when it comes to traffic along East Burkhardt Road. New businesses, apartments, and connecting roads are still under construction. But I'm happy to report that one major construction area is now open for drivers.

It was not that long ago that this little stretch of Oak Grove Rd could get pretty congested if someone was turning left from Hirschland Rd. The newly completed project solved that problem by eliminating the left turn option.

Different Driving Pattern

The top photo was taken prior to any road construction. In the bottom photo, you can see that you cannot turn left onto Oak Grove Road from Hirschland Road. There is no longer a stop sign. Instead, there is a yield, and drivers can only merge right.

Watch Out for the Median

I discovered that this new median also prevents drivers from turning left onto Hirschland Rd from Oak Grove Rd. This is leading to dangerous u-turns and drivers (Like me) are turning into the shipping and loading area at the back of Lowe's.
