DIY Bedazzled Vase: Callie’s Craft Corner

Welcome to the very first Callie’s Craft Corner!

One thing about me: I love to craft.

I was always that kid who wanted to get out some form of arts and crafts. There was almost always an art kit on my Christmas list, and that continued even as an adult.

I took art all four years of high school, minored in graphic design and took several art courses in college. You get the point...I really like art.

Needless to say, I still craft on the regular, so I decided it was finally time to turn that love into a series: Callie’s Craft Corner!

Once a week, I’m going to make a craft and show you step-by-step how you can make it yourself. I’ll record the process along the way and even give you the exact total of how much the project cost me to make.

It gives me an excuse to do something I already love, try some crafts I’ve never made before and hopefully show you how to make something fun at the same time.

So, for the very first episode of Callie’s Craft Corner, I decided to make something for our receptionist, Emma.

A Bouquet for Someone Who Deserves It

Emma always has fresh flowers on her desk. Not only that, but she would put flowers on my side of the room and give flowers to all of the women in the office.

Emma is truly a ray of sunshine, so I wanted to create a bouquet of flowers for her that would never die.

Plus, my For You Page has been filled with bedazzled EVERYTHING recently, and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to finally bedazzle something myself.

So, a bedazzled flower vase it was!

Here's What I Bought

For this craft, I ordered two packs of gems from Amazon for $7.97 each, went to Dollar Tree and picked up a vase for around $3, and bought about $16 worth of artificial flowers to fill it.

Altogether, this project came out to $31.94.

This was a fairly easy craft to make, and it turned out really colorful and fun. However, I will warn you: it is time-consuming. It also ended up costing a little more than I think we'll typically spend on future Craft Corner projects.

Time to Bedazzle

I started by taking the gems and sticking them directly onto the vase.

Although, after doing this myself, I have one piece of advice: you might want to use some glass glue.

I relied on the adhesive already on the gems, and they tend to fall off pretty easily. So, if you want your vase to last, adding a little extra glue would probably save you some frustration later.

As for actually decorating the vase, I started by placing the biggest gems first. Then, I filled in the spaces with the medium-sized gems before finishing everything off with the smallest ones.

And then…I ran out of gems.

Apparently, I underestimated just how many rhinestones it takes to cover a vase.

So, I had to order a second pack and wait for those to arrive before I could finish.

While I Waited…

Instead of just staring at my half-bedazzled vase, I moved on to the flowers.

I filled the vase with Styrofoam and then poked the stems of the artificial flowers into it, arranging them until I was happy with how the bouquet looked.

Once that second set of gems finally arrived, I finished bedazzling the vase, added the flowers and Callie’s Craft Corner project number one was officially complete.

The finished vase was colorful, sparkly and definitely hard to miss.

But most importantly, it was ready for Emma's desk.

The First Craft Corner Is Complete!

I surprised Emma with her new forever bouquet, and she LOVED it.

And just like that, the very first episode of Callie’s Craft Corner was finished and the first project got to go to someone who absolutely deserves it.

I'd say that's a pretty good way to start the series.
