Callie's Craft Corner Episode 4

This is the perfect craft to kick off fall!

It is officially fall now, so obviously my first fall craft had to be something easy that you can make at home with things you probably already have around the house. For this one, we're actually using something we use every single day. You just have to think outside the box a little to make it cute.

We all have toilet paper and paper towels in our house... at least I would hope.

Well, instead of throwing away those cardboard rolls when you're done with them, hang on to them because we're turning them into pumpkins! Apparently Cinderella's carriage isn't the only thing that can turn into a pumpkin.

Save Those Cardboard Rolls!

First, take your toilet paper roll and cut it in half. If you're using a paper towel roll, you can cut it into thirds.

Then, cut slits about halfway down on each side of the roll. Once you've made your cuts, fold those pieces down toward the center. Eventually, it'll turn into what I can only describe as a very uneven-looking donut.

It's going to look a little funky at this point, and that's okay! You're going to cover the whole thing up anyway.

Time for the Yarn

Once you have your weird-looking cardboard donut, grab a long piece of yarn. Stick it through the middle of the toilet paper roll and start wrapping it around and around the cardboard.

Side note: My cats LOVED this part. Yarn going everywhere? Apparently this craft was also entertainment for them.

Keep wrapping the yarn around the roll until you've completely covered the cardboard. As you add more and more yarn, you'll start to see it puff up and actually take the shape of a little pumpkin.

And that's pretty much it!

Don't Forget the Stem

For the stem, you can use a cinnamon stick if you have some around the house. That would probably make your pumpkins smell pretty good, too!

If you don't have cinnamon sticks, don't worry. I didn't either. I just grabbed a regular stick from outside, broke it into smaller pieces and stuck one right into the middle of each pumpkin.

Honestly, I think the real stick makes them look even more like tiny pumpkins.

Put Them on Display!

To finish everything off, I went to Dollar Tree and found a cute little basket for about $3. Fill it up with your homemade pumpkins, and suddenly you've got an easy fall decoration that barely costs anything to make.

And there you have it the first craft of my fall series!

Since I was late on posting this I will post another Craft Corner episode at the end of this week, so stay tuned!

Now I need some ideas for what I should make next. Do you have any fall craft suggestions for me?
