Evansville Church Offers Comfort and Support at “Blue” Christmas Service
Despite what the classic Christmas songs tell us, this season isn’t always merry and bright for everyone. While many of us are decorating trees, shopping for gifts, and planning family get-togethers, there are also a lot of people quietly carrying heavy hearts. For some, this may be the very first Christmas without a grandparent, parent, spouse, sibling, child, or even a beloved family pet. For others, the holidays can stir up memories of losses from years past. If that’s you - or someone you care about - you’re not alone, and it’s important to remember that it’s okay to feel exactly how you feel.
What is a Blue Christmas Service?
That’s why the Turning Pointe Church, located at 9800 Middle Mt. Vernon Road on Evansville’s west side, has continued a meaningful tradition that speaks directly to those moments when the season feels more heavy than happy. For several years now, the church has hosted a special “Blue Christmas” service designed to offer comfort, understanding, and hope during the holidays. This year’s service will take place on Sunday, December 21st, at 6:00 p.m.
Who Should Attend the Turning Pointe's Blue Christmas Service?
So, who is Blue Christmas for? Honestly, it’s for anyone. Come if you’re feeling a little blue this season. Come if you’ve recently lost someone you love. Come if you’re navigating life after a divorce or separation, coping with a job loss, or living with cancer or another illness that brings uncertainty. And even if none of those situations describes you, you’re still welcome. You might come to support a friend, to better understand what others are walking through, or simply to remind yourself that compassion matters - especially this time of year.

The Blue Christmas service is intentionally simple and welcoming. You’ll hear a few songs, along with a message focused on hope, healing, and restoration. There’s no pressure to feel a certain way—just space to breathe, reflect, and know you’re not alone.
