My 4 A.M. Winter Wake-Up Call… Courtesy of My Cat

Okay, I need your help. I don’t have one of those fancy key fobs that let you warm up your car from the comfort of your cozy, heated home. Nope. I’m old school. I physically have to walk outside, get into the icebox that is my car, and start it manually. Normally, it’s just a tiny inconvenience… but yesterday it turned into a full-blown adventure.
So there I am, half-asleep at 3:55 in the morning, going out to warm up my car. I walk back inside, and suddenly—boom—my cat decides that’s the perfect moment to make a break for it. Straight out the door. Straight toward the highway. Straight toward my heart stopping. Long story short: she’s fine. I got her back inside. But wow, did that jolt me awake faster than any cup of coffee ever could.

Winter is Creeping Up

With the cold months creeping up on us, this whole situation got me thinking about winter car struggles—the frozen windshields, the iced-over doors, the “why did I choose to live somewhere where the air hurts my face?” kind of mornings.
Back when I lived in Naperville near Chicago, it once took me 45 minutes to thaw out my car. Forty-five. I genuinely thought I was going to lose at least three fingers to frostbite that day. So now I’m hoping Indiana winters will be a little kinder… and that my cat stays inside where she belongs. But seriously, maybe you all can help me out here.

What’s Your Go-To Winter Car Hack?

I’ve got the basics:
✔️ Ice scrapers
✔️ De-icer spray
✔️ A stubborn determination to not freeze
But am I missing something?
Should I be using hot towels?
Warm water in a plastic bag?
Do I need some magical TikTok hack I haven’t discovered yet?
Or is this the universe telling me it’s time to invest in a remote-start key fob and officially join the warm-and-toasty club?
I’d love to hear what YOU do to stay warm, thaw your car fast, and still make it to work safely during those icy mornings. Because if a cat highway chase is how my winter is starting… I’m going to need all the help I can get. ❄️🚗🐱
