Here’s Why St. George Rd in Evansville is Closed, and How to Get Around it
It looks like the already congested stretch of Oak Hill Road between Lynch and St. George is about to get even more traffic.
Why is St. George Road Closed?
If you drive the small stretch of St. George Road from Highway 41 to Hitch and Peters Rd, you will need to go another way for about the next week. We knew something was up when the road closed signs appeared a couple of weeks ago. Originally, St. George Rd was to be closed on Monday, July 14, but that was pushed to July 24.
Now we know that the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility will be doing some work in the area.
TRAFFIC ALERT: Starting today, the intersection of St. George Road and Hitch and Peters Road will be fully closed for 5 days. No traffic will be allowed through. The planned detour will utilize US Hwy 41, Lynch Road, and Oak Hill Road.
Detour + Semis = Headache
I mean no disrespect to truck drivers, but some days just trying to navigate Oak Hill Road is chaos enough without any extra detour traffic. With St. George Rd closed from HWY 41 to Hitch & Peters Rd, traffic is re-routed to Lynch Rd from HWY 41 to Oak Hill Rd.
If You Know, You Know
Honestly, I was hoping that the road closure was to widen the lanes maybe, so I don't feel like I'm going to be run over by a semi. The road is just so narrow, and not in the best condition, and there are so many semis that use that little stretch of road, too.
