After a slow start, I came roaring back to win a tricycle race against two teenagers during intermission of the Evansville IceMen game on March 7th — or did I?

I was asked by the IceMen to participate a few days ahead of the game, and knew from the moment they asked that I was going to try and win because I don't play the "goofy radio guy that's out there for show" thing. If either of my young competitors wanted to win, they were going to have to work for it in my opinion (life lesson kids...LIFE IS HARD AND YOU DON'T WIN EVERYTHING!).

The idea was this. Start at one end of the ice, make a turn around the goal on the opposite side, run the entire length of the rink again, around the other goal, then finish at center ice. I misjudged the slickness of the ice at the start and went into an instant spin-out from the word "Go" giving my competition a pretty decent lead by the time I was able to gain traction.

Once I got going and gained some ground, I noticed they were both hugging the wall on the outside. I saw my chance to take the inside going into the first turn, which put me in the lead for a second until I started spinning out again. Fortunately, I was able to get right quickly and keep pace going into turn two. As we went into the final stretch to center ice, I knew the young lady I was racing against was gaining ground. Peddling as fast as I could, with my thigh muscles burning, I crashed into the board at the finish line and was declared the winner.

But the more I watch the video below, I'm starting to think that the young lady may have beat me by just a hair. Take a look at let me know what you think in the comments below. Rematch, anyone?
