Free Pet Adoptions Are Coming to Evansville This Saturday

If you have been thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, Saturday might be the perfect day to do it.

Animal lovers, this one is for you! There are some paws looking to latch onto your heart.

The Vanderburgh Humane Society is teaming up with the ASPCA for a special adoption event happening Saturday, September 26, and there is one pretty big perk: adoption fees are being waived for eligible pets!

As part of The Rescue Effect, VHS will offer free adoptions for pets who have already been spayed or neutered on Saturday.

And if you have ever adopted a pet, you know those adoption fees can add up. VHS normally charges $200 for adult dogs, $250 for puppies and $100 for cats and kittens, with those fees helping cover things like spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchipping and other care.

Maybe You’ll Meet Your New Best Friend

VHS says its available pets range from sweet and snuggly to playful and full of personality, so if you have been considering adopting, this is a great excuse to stop by and meet a few of them.

The shelter's normal Saturday adoption hours are noon to 6 p.m., and VHS is located at 400 Millner Industrial Drive in Evansville. Prospective adopters will still need to complete the shelter's adoption process, which includes a short application designed to help match animals with the right homes.

Just remember that the free adoption special applies specifically to pets who are already spayed or neutered.

And really, the message behind the event says it all: Adopt a pet, help many. That’s The Rescue Effect.

You can check out the pets currently available for adoption and learn more about the process on the Vanderburgh Humane Society website.
