It’s Kitten Season in Evansville, You Can Find Your New Best Friend at VHS
It’s Kitten Season in Evansville And the Perfect Time to Adopt
If you know me, you know I am a cat lover and luckily for us both, it's kitten season. Maybe this is why your social feeds have suddenly been filled with tiny paws, big eyes, and fluffy little faces, well kitten season is officially here in Evansville.
Kitten season is the time of year, typically in the spring through early fall which means cuteness for us but shelters see a huge influx of newborn and young kittens. For local animal shelters like Vanderburgh Humane Society, it’s one of the busiest and most important times of the year. With more litters coming in, more foster homes and adopters are needed to help these babies find safe, loving forever homes. I adopted my second kitty early August.
Why Adopting During Kitten Season Matters
Every kitten adopted opens up space for another animal in need. During kitten season, that space becomes critical.
The Vanderburgh Humane Society serves thousands of animals across the Tri-State each year, and their mission focuses on reducing pet overpopulation through adoption, spay/neuter services, and humane education. ([Adopt a Pet][1]) During the spring and summer months, kittens can arrive faster than they can be placed, which is why community support is so important.
The best part? When you adopt from Vanderburgh Humane Society, your new furry friend already comes with huge benefits included in the adoption fee, spay or neuter, microchip, and age-appropriate vaccinations (which I did not get all of that included with my first cat that was not adopted). That means you’re not just bringing home a cute kitten, you’re bringing home a pet that already has a healthy head start, and that makes all the difference in the world.
So Many Ways to Meet Your New Best Friend
One of the coolest parts of adopting locally is that kittens can be found both at the shelter and through the VHS’s off-site cat café program. River Kitty Cat Café in Evansville works directly with the Vanderburgh Humane Society and helps showcase adoptable cats in a fun, relaxed setting. Every cat there begins their journey with VHS.
That means your next coffee run could also turn into meeting your future best friend.
Why Evansville Animal Lovers Should Step Up
Kitten season is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming for shelters. Choosing adoption helps save lives, reduces overcrowding, and gives these tiny animals the chance they deserve.
If you’ve been thinking about adding a cat to your family, now is truly one of the best times to do it. Whether you’re looking for a playful little troublemaker, a cuddly lap kitten, or a bonded pair, Vanderburgh Humane Society is full of sweet faces waiting for homes.
There’s nothing better than knowing your newest family member came from right here in Evansville and that your adoption made room for the next kitten in need.
A Purr-fect Local Reminder
Kitten season won’t last forever, but the love of an adopted cat absolutely will.
So if your home has room for one more heartbeat (and maybe a little midnight zoomies), now’s the time to visit Vanderburgh Humane Society and meet the kittens stealing hearts all over Evansville.
