Taylor Swift Takes Over Central Park for ‘Good Morning America’ Concert, Talks Re-Recording First Six Albums
Taylor Swift performed an exclusive concert in Central Park on Good Morning America Thursday (August 22).
Fans camped out overnight to get a great spot at Swift's concert. To give back to them, Swift sent her team to bring them pizzas and guitar picks late Wednesday night (August 21).
Ahead of her performance, Swift sat down with GMA host Robin Roberts to talk about her upcoming album, Lover, and detailed her plan to re-record her first six albums to gain the ownership to the masters back.
When Roberts brought up the subject of her new album, Swift said, "It's the first one that I will own of my work," to a round of applause.
Roberts then brought up her plan to re-record her music on order to regain the rights to her masters that her previous record label, Big Machine, owns.
"Yeah, that's true and that's something I'm very excited about doing 'cause my contract says that starting November 2020, so next year, I can record the albums 1-5 all over again," she shared.
When asked why that was so important to her, her reply was swift: "I think artists deserve to own their work, I just feel very passionately about that."
She also revealed that she will be opening up MTV's Video Music Awards on Monday (August 26) with a performance.
Swift performed a set of three songs during the concert, including "Shake It Off," "You Need to Calm Down" and "Me!".
The Bachelorette's Hannah Brown was in the audience as well as comedian Tiffany Haddish and YouTuber Todrick Hall.
Swift's seventh studio album, Lover, debuts Friday (August 23). Four deluxe versions of the album will be available at Target and will include exclusive posters, two bonus audio tracks of Swift's creation of songs and 100 pages of Swift's personal diaries.
