Are Thrifters the New Mallrats?

Over the past year, Eastland Mall has said goodbye to H&M, Tilly's, and PacSun. Trendy clothing is the common denominator with all three of these stores. Honestly, it seems like teens and young adults prefer to thrift, and that is probably hurting retail stores. It would make sense to put a thrift store inside a mall. Oh wait, we have that at Washington Square Mall.

Express Factory Outlet Closing

Express has filed for bankruptcy, and nearly 100 stores are set to close. That does include the Express Factory Store that is located inside Eastland Mall in Evansville, Indiana.

Express isn't disappearing completely. They're just going through a lil' makeover. Think glow-up, not fade-out!
They've filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which is basically a financial reset button to get things back on track.
We don't have a set closing date at this time.
Closing sales are set to begin on April 23, 2024.

The Future is Still Bright

While the standard retail clothing stores aren't doing the best inside the mall, there is a niche that keeps shoppers coming in. Shops that specialize in pop culture merch seem to be doing ok. That is the main reason my family and I go to the mall several times a month. Stores like Hot Topic, BoxLunch, and MINISO offers some really unique lifestyle and collectable items.
