Oak Hill Twilight Tour Brings Evansville History to Life
If you’re looking for some spooky fun this Halloween season, and you don’t mind learning something at the same time, Oak Hill Cemetery has you covered.
History Comes to Life After Dark
The annual Twilight Tour is happening this Saturday, October 24, at 5 p.m., and it's a great one for the whole family. Live reenactments will bring some of Evansville's most notable residents back to life, telling the stories of the people buried at Oak Hill. There's also a presentation on how these folks helped shape the city we know today.
Why the Tour Is Both Fun and Educational
"The Twilight Tour brings local history to life in a way that's both entertaining and educational," said City Arborist Shawn Dickerson. He says the cemetery's atmosphere and the stories of those laid to rest there give visitors a fresh look at Evansville's past.
Your Ticket Helps Protect Ash Trees
And your ticket does some good, too. Proceeds support the Evansville Adopt-An-Ash Program, which is working to protect ash trees at Oak Hill from the emerald ash borer. That invasive pest has hit ash trees hard across the community, putting a big piece of Evansville's tree canopy at risk. Money raised at the tour helps save these trees and protect the city's natural landscape.

The event is hosted by the City of Evansville Department of Urban Forestry, in partnership with Evansville City Cemeteries and the Adopt-An-Ash Program.
Tickets: $15 for adults, $10 for students, and $5 for children. You can buy them online at evansvilleparksfoundation.org/twilight-tours or at the cemetery's main gate the night of the event.
