Mother Nature thought you know what, I'm bored. Let's kick 2020 up a notch. Today, we are all dealing with social distancing due to COVID-19, there was an earthquake in Salt Lake City, UT, and now we might be dealing with some nasty weather here locally. In a Facebook post the National Weather Service stated: Severe thunderstorms are possible throughout the region Thursday afternoon and night. The greatest concern is over southeast Missouri. Damaging winds and tornadoes are the primary severe threats, but some large hail cannot be ruled out. Flash flooding is also concern.

An area of showers with a few embedded thunderstorms will move eastward across the region today. A few strong to severe storms cannot be ruled out over west Kentucky late this afternoon into the early evening. The primary severe concern will be damaging winds. In addition, locally heavy rainfall could lead to some very isolated flash flooding over west Kentucky this afternoon into the early evening.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

Scattered thunderstorms will develop after midnight over southeast Missouri and west Kentucky and lift northward into southern Illinois by daybreak. Locally heavy rainfall and lightning will be the primary concerns.
