Samuel L. Jackson’s Voice Will Be an Option for Amazon Alexa Users

Samuel L. Jackson will be the first celebrity voice option for Amazon’s Alexa, and now I have to go out and buy one. The sheer thought of having his voice for Alexa is humorous. I’m laughing just thinking about it.

According to Variety, Mr. Jackson’s voice will be available later this year for a 99 cent intro price, and Amazon will add more guest voices for Alexa in 2020. Variety says that Amazon is doing these celebrity guest voices to:

“make Alexa’s default female voice more human-sounding, with more emotive and expressive speech. It also lets Alexa replicate speech inflections of real people, too — meaning Jackson’s voice on Alexa will be synthesized, rather than delivered as pre-recorded words or phrases.”

Now, I know what your big question is: Since it’s Samuel L. Jackson, will Amazon have him say his trademark catchphrase (you know which one I am talking about)? Good news. You will be able to choose whether you want him to use clean or explicit language. So that means that there’s a good chance that you will hear him say “hold onto your butts” and “mother f***a” both!

So once  the Jackson voice pack becomes available and you have downloaded it onto your Alexa device, you will then need to say, “Alexa, introduce me to Samuel L. Jackson,” then choose whether they want him to use explicit language or not. I can tell you that if I have Samuel L. Jackson on my Alexa device, I want it to sound as authentic as possible, so I would definitely choose the explicit version…unless there are kids around of course.

Variety also gave us some example commands that Amazon will be offering with Samuel L. Jackson’s voice. These include:

• “Alexa, ask Samuel L. Jackson where he is from”
• “Alexa, ask Sam to wake me up at 7 a.m.”
• “Alexa, ask Sam Jackson to sing happy birthday.”

It should also be noted that these celebrity voice packs will not be able to help with shopping, lists, reminders or skills. That being said, I have never been more convinced to get an Alexa device. Never really thought that I had the need for one, but if Samuel L. Jackson is going to speak to me, why not, (insert Samuel L. Jackson catchphrase here) ?!
