Queen Tribute Band Coming to Southern Indiana Theater and They ‘Will Rock You’
The 2018 rock biopic Bohemian Rhapsody won Rami Malek a Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury AND ginned up renewed interest in the legendary band.
Whether or not that was necessary--the title song, "We Will Rock You", "Another One Bites the Dust," and so many more are classics and unavoidable, regardless of how you listen to music that isn't your own--remains to be seen but it happened, nonetheless.
And we're better off for it. Queen is one of the most exciting bands in the history of rock 'n' roll and is still touring today with former American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert serving as lead vocalist.
And, as is often the case with iconic rock bands, there is a Queen tribute band that features Patrick Myers and his spot-on impersonation of Freddie Mercury.
Wow, does listening to their music EVER bring back lots of memories. Queen was an integral part of my childhood soundtrack, so Killer Queen: a Tribute to Queen, coming to Evansville, would be--for me, personally--a huge nostalgia trip.
Tickets go on sale Friday, November 4th at 10 AM, for the tribute concert March 30th, 2023 at the Victory Theater.
Killer Queen is the world's longest-established tribute band, having formed soon after Freddie Mercury's death in 1991. In March, Myers spoke with SFL Music Magazine about the band's longevity:
When we started there were hardly any tributes around. The whole phrase ‘tribute band’ was completely new then. So, it was kind of like a bit of a leap of faith really. Jumping out onstage in a costume and hoping people would just be ok with it, but the reception it got on that first day was so fantastic and so warm because there’s a lot of love for Queen.
And, next spring, a lot of fans who love Queen will likely be on hand for an amazing trip down rock 'n' roll memory lane.
