Reflecting On 2025 And The Habits Worth Keeping
Looking Back, Moving Forward: The Habits I’m Taking Into the New Year
Can you believe there’s not even a full month left in 2025? This is usually the time of year when I scroll back to the pictures I took in January and think, *Wow… that was this year?* So much has changed for me, and the older I get, the more I’m realizing that the changes and decisions start to feel a lot more real.
Every year comes with its pros and cons, and I’ve learned a lot about what helps me get through those “life ruts” that pop up out of nowhere. With a new year on the horizon, it really does feel like hitting a reset button—but with all the knowledge you collected along the way.
The 2025 Bingo Card That Moved With Me
One thing I did at the start of this year was make a “2025 Bingo Card” filled with goals—over 20 little things I wanted to accomplish. I decorated it, stuck it on my fridge… and then totally forgot about it.
The funny part? When I moved this year, I had to take that same bingo card from my fridge in Missouri and put it on a new fridge in Indiana. And yes—“move to a different state” was already on the card. I meant it back in January, but actually doing it felt surreal.
I genuinely can’t wait to pull it back out on New Year’s Day and see how many boxes I accidentally checked off. Maybe I’ll even get a bingo.
Journaling: One of my Favorite "Brain Dumping" Habits
Another thing that truly changed my year was journaling. I don’t journal every day, but I try for at least two entries a week. It’s wild how helpful it is to keep track of where you are, how you’re feeling, and what’s going on in your life.
Before you know it, you’ve filled a whole notebook—and ten years from now you can look back and laugh at the “problems” you thought were the end of the world.
Romanticizing Your Life (Yes… It Actually Works)
This was a late-in-the-year addition, and it came from one of my girlfriends: romanticize your life.
So what does that even mean? It’s basically making your everyday tasks feel a little more peaceful, a little more special, and a lot less like chores.
We all have dishes, laundry, errands, and meal prep waiting for us. But why not make a favorite drink first, light a candle, put on a record, or fix the lighting? When the vibe is right, the task feels less overwhelming and more like a moment you get to create for yourself.
Habits I’m Bringing With Me Into 2026
- Journaling
- Romanticizing the everyday
- Creating fun goal lists (like my bingo card)
- Decorating them so they feel motivating, not stressful
- Taking nonfiction books more seriously—and actually applying what I learn
These are the little things that kept me grounded this year, and I’m excited to bring them with me into the next one.
What about you?
