Check your fridge, or fruit bowl, if there are peaches in there you recently purchased, you may need to throw them out.

Prima Wawona, growers and distributors of peaches in California, have announced a nationwide recall through the U.S. Food & Drug Administration after more than 60 people in nine states are suspected of getting ill from salmonella poisoning after eating the product. The recall does not specify in which states the illnesses were reported.

The peaches were distributed to and sold by nationwide retailers including Walmart, Target, Kroger, and Aldi, all of which have locations in the Tri-State. Kroger also owns the Ruler Foods chain of grocery stores.

The recall applies to "bulk/loose peaches distributed and sold from June 1 through August 3 and its bagged Wawona and Wawona Organic peaches distributed and sold from June 1 through August 19th." The recalled bagged peaches and their product numbers are listed below:

  • Wawona Peaches – 033383322001
  • Wawona Organic Peaches – 849315000400
  • Prima® Peaches – 766342325903
  • Organic Marketside Peaches – 849315000400
  • Kroger Peaches – 011110181749
  • Wegmans Peaches – 077890490488

The recalled bulk/loose peaches (usually found in bins where you can select the ones you want) have the following PLU numbers on the sticker: 4037, 4038, 4044, 4401, 94037, 94038, 94044, 94401.

Prima Wawona says if you have any of the affected product, either throw it out immediately, or return it to the store where you purchased them for a full refund.
