Study Ranks Kentucky One of the Least Diverse States in America
When you look up the meaning of diversity, the first thing you'll find is a one-word definition - it simply means "variety." Over the years, however, that definition has expanded quite a bit. These days you probably think of diversity more along the lines of "the practice of including or involving people from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds and of different genders, sexual orientations, etc."
WalletHub recently conducted a study ranking the Most & Least Diverse States in 2024, looking at more than which states have the best variety of ethnicities and genders. Data from every state was compared in six diversity categories - socioeconomic, cultural, economic, household, religious, and political.

The results were great for some of the states along America's borders. The top five most diverse states are California, Texas, Florida, New Mexico, and Hawaii. The results were not as great for some of the midwest states, namely Kentucky.
When It Comes to Diversity, Kentucky Ranks 45th Out of 50
Another way to say it is that Kentucky is the 6th least diverse state in America, according to the study. Here are the individual category rankings that landed Kentucky so far down on the list.

- Cultural Diversity Ranking - 46th
- Economic Diversity Ranking - 28th
- Household Diversity Ranking - 13th
- Religious Diversity Ranking - 29th
- Political Diversity Ranking - 34th
