It's not everyday you see a manatee, at least not in this part of the country!  While on my vacation in Miami, I saw dozens of them in a nearby channel where my son resides.  Manatees are huge marine mammals that are sometimes referred to as "sea cows."

Manatees are about 13 feet long and weigh as much as 1,300 pounds!  They have paddle-like flippers and are slow plant eaters.  They're peaceful and similar to cows on land.  Manatees used to be on the endangered species list.  They like to graze in shallow waters on water plants in tropical seas. In Florida, manatees have been known to survive up to 60 years!
