What started as a TikTok video from a substance abuse counselor who works inside a Kentucky detention center, became an inspiration for thousands. Teresa (Pictured below) Shared the TikTok with me that started this inspirational visit.

Natalie R. is a Substance Abuse Counselor at the Marion County Detention Center in Lebanon, Kentucky about an hour outside of Louisville. She does not have an easy job, and knowing Jelly Roll's backstory and how he overcame addiction to become the amazingly successful singer that he is, she decided to ask Jelly Roll for some help at the detention center. And GUESS WHAT?! It Worked!

Music Raises Moral

Natalie shared that she leads several programs for the 128 incarcerated men, and one of them involves music. She says that when Jelly Roll comes on, even the toughest guys smile and sing along.

Testimony

Natalie's TikTok wasn't just a request for concert tickets or a meet & greet. She felt like if her clients could listen to Jelly Roll's testimony in person, that it could really make a difference in their recovery and mental health.

Gratitude

Natalie shared her personal thoughts about the impact that Jelly Roll's testimony had on her and everyone in the jail.

It wasn’t about publicity.
It wasn’t about concert tickets.
It wasn’t about getting a picture to post and feel popular for a social media minute.

It was about the guys in a blue uniform that I’ve cried in a concrete room with while we sang “Son of a Sinner” from the top of our lungs.

The guys that I sit with in a circle every Tuesday and Thursday, like clockwork, talking about some of the darkest days they’ve ever had.

The guys who listen to my broken record P.O.R.T.A.L.S class and want every resource we can offer to help their adjustment back home be a permanent one.

The guys who want to be better fathers, sons, husbands, brothers, friends, and men.

The guys who help heal me, by me helping heal them.

What an experience.

Forever grateful, Jelly Roll
