Owensboro O'Charley's Has Closed Its Doors

The first time I ever saw and visited an O'Charley's, I was a student at Western Kentucky University. It was the 1980s, and my parents had come to visit, so we tried out this new place, and we loved it.

I don't think I've gone a week since that time that I didn't see an O'Charley's, whether it was there in Bowling Green, here in Owensboro, or somewhere else. Talk about a pioneer in casual dining. And the thing is, we ARE and WILL BE talking about it for a while, since we've heard the news that the Owensboro O'Charley's is closing for good.

But Owensboro's O'Charley's isn't the only one lighting up social media today. I did a quick search for "O'Charley's" on Facebook and got this right at the top.

And I'm not just seeing reports like this from Kentucky. I ran across this poignant post from Ohio.

And this one from Nashville.

O'Charley's Has Been Closing Restaurants

The home of some of my all-time favorite chicken tenders and the best broccoli I've ever tasted at a restaurant (what DID they do to make that broccoli sing?) is clearly going through some major changes.

And these closures aren't coming out of nowhere; Cannae Holdings has already announced that, as of June 30, 2026, the O'Charley's restaurant count dropped to 47 locations from 57 the previous year. It also reported that management is continuing to close underperforming locations. Same-store sales were also down 13.1% during the second quarter of 2026.
