The next time you visit Meijer in Evansville, you might notice some super-new parking spaces.

Reserved for Tesla

I don't think that I would recognize a Telsa out on the road. Meijer recently added ten spots that feature Supercharger stations. I have yet to see one actually parked there, but I'm sure that will change soon.

How Does a Supercharger Work?

I am by no means an expert on Telsa vehicles, so I went straight to the source Tesla.com to find out how these chargers work.

  • They are not free. Tesla owners download an app to pay for Supercharge.
  • Supercharging is not long-term parking. A Tesla can be fully charged in just 15 minutes. If you stay connected to the charger for a longer period of time, the app will tack on 'Idle time' charges.
  • Superchargers are not a new concept. Meijer debuted the Superchargers at their flagship store in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 2018.

The Tesla Supercharger is the fastest charging option when you're away from home, allowing you to charge your car up to 200 miles in 15 minutes. Designed to get you charged and back on the road as quickly as possible, we own and operate over 45,000 global Superchargers that are accessible on a 24/7 basis, located on major routes near convenient amenities.

KEEP READING: 40 Real Indiana Towns with Quirky, Weird, and Funny Names

Outside the major cities, the Hoosier state is full of tiny little towns you've probably passed through on your way to one of those cities. Most of them are likely 100 to 150 years old, or older, and have been around far longer than the large metropolitan areas such as Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, South Bend, and Evansville. Typically, they were started by early settlers who found their way to the state and decided to make it home. Eventually, others would join them, and a community was formed. Over time, as the surrounding areas grew, most of them were folded into those areas and governed by the nearest city or county's governing body officially making them "unincorporated," meaning they did not have their own formally organized municipal government.

A scroll through Wikipedia's long list of unincorporated communities in Indiana shows several of them have names that by today's standards would be considered weird, quirky, or just downright right funny. These are my 40 favorities.
