Change, discrimination, hate, neglect, poverty, or abuse can cause a significant amount of stress in children. Losing someone you love can cause them to withdraw, and become emotional. That's why there's a spring day camp coming to Daviess County to serve stressed, anxious, or trauma-impacted kids.

Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory holds a special place in my heart. I had so much loss between 2013 and 2015 and needed a helping hand to cope. During this time, I lost both of my parents, and my husband's parents, my house was burglarized, my car was totaled in a freak accident, had a health scare, and challenges at my job. It was a lot. Their therapist knew I must be having a hard time. She sought me out and handed me her business card. She told me I could see her whenever I needed to. It was such a blessing!

CAMP LOGAN COMES BACK TO OWENSBORO

Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory in Owensboro is again back with a very important camp. Children who live through the loss of a loved one may need special attention to recover for many years. The after-effects can be long-lasting. This is where Camp Logan comes in. The grief camp is open to children and teens between 6 and 16 years old. The camp offers young people the opportunity to understand grief and loss. They'll address how to deal with emotional stress and anxiety after experiencing the death of a loved one. Not addressing the grief can lead to more severe problems down the road. Camp Logan is FREE of charge. Save the date for March 23, 2024!

My girls love Camp Logan and will be back again. Thank you for all you do for everyone in our community. You all are a staple. - Hanna Bailey

We'll share more information as it becomes available.

IMPORTANT WAYS TO HELP IDENTIFY CHILDREN DEALING WITH TRAUMA

According to Children's Health Care, how a child understands death and experiences grief is dependent on several factors including:

Age
Development
Personality
How they react to stress or emotion
Previous experience with death
Family circumstances
how others around them grieve,
and the amount of support they receive.

Focus on the Family adds:

"A child is likely at first to deny death, then grieve intermittently for many years.
A child can put grief aside more easily than an adult. One question may be about her grandfather’s death; the very next question will be about her doll.
A child often postpones her grief – or at least part of it.
A child’s grief often lasts throughout childhood; pieces of it last into adulthood."

Your child could be grieving one minute and playing the next. Knowing the signs of grief is the most important thing to recognize. The death of a loved one can lead your child to be fearful, sad, or anxious. Camp Logan and the team at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory will help them navigate it all every step of the way.
