Evansville Area Kids Can Enjoy a Free Spooky Skate This Halloween

As a kid, I loved roller and ice skating. I wasn't ever very good at it, but I thought it was fun. These days, I'd rather sit on the sidelines and watch my kid and her friends take the falls! There's something magical about taking a group of teenagers to hang out and just watching them enjoy life.

FREE Spooky Skate at Swonder Ice Arena

Whether you're a skating pro or just starting out, be sure to check out the FREE Spooky Skate at Swonder Ice Arena in Evansville. Kids 17 and under can skate for free from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 31st if they're in costume. Skate rental is included, and they'll be playing some Halloween favorites to skate to. How cool is that?

It's a great excuse for everyone from little kids to high schoolers to pull out their Halloween costumes and hit the ice for an afternoon of spooky fun before trick-or-treating.

Just make sure their costumes won't get in the way of skating. I have PTSD from when my daughter INSISTED on wearing a giant Belle dress to Disney World. It had a full hoop skirt and petticoat. I told her it was a bad idea and she'd want to change, but when you're 4 years old, all you can see is the magic.

Yes, Mama packed a different outfit, and yes, it only lasted about an hour before she'd had enough!

If you're an adult and don't want to just sit on the sidelines, admission to skate is only $10.

Get a Free Skate With a Food Donation

If you can't make the Spooky Skate, there's another way to get out on the ice. From October 19 through November 18, you can donate a box of Jiffy cornbread mix to the Evansville Rescue Mission and receive a voucher for a free future public skate.

So grab those costumes, lace up those skates, and head to Swonder Ice Arena for a Halloween outing that won't cost a thing for kids 17 and under. Free skating AND free skate rental? That's a treat worth celebrating!
