Is this the beginning of the return of the NFL to St. Louis?
The NFL is looking into expanding to 40 NFL teams, and if this report is true here is why St. Louis needs to be at the top of the list for expansion.
According to a report from profootballtalk.nbcsports.com the NFL could be looking to expand from 32 teams, which currently is 8 divisions with 4 teams in each division, to 8 divisions with 5 teams in each division, making 40 total teams. In the report from Pro Football Talk they say...
"If/when the NFL offers St. Louis an expansion team in an effort to resolve the Rams relocation litigation, the league wouldn’t move to an odd number of teams... If the expansion process from 32 begins, 40 becomes the natural ending point. That would result in eight divisions of five teams each. And it would make sense at that point to have 16 playoff teams."

Obviously, St. Louis would be first in line to receive a team in this expansion because this is all built around them being wrongfully left by the Rams, St. Louis metro area is a top 25 metro area in the USA and could easily support a new franchise, especially with the intense sports-crazed city it is, look to the Cardinals as your only needed example.
If St. Louis gets a team they would be a natural fit in the NFC North division with the Lions, Bears, Packers, and Vikings, or if they wanted to move the new STL team to the AFC South the NFC North could easily take on the Colts to balance out the divisions as well. Besides St. Louis the other cities that I think would be in line for a team would be Austin, Oklahoma City, San Antonio, San Diego, Portland, and Salt Lake City. Which other cities would you have in line for an NFL team?
